About Domain names

Hey everyone.
Just wanted to know something.
I bought a domain name, and a hosting server from this hosting company. Now I canceled my account there, but is there any chance that the domain name can still be mine ?

Also, where do you suggest to buy domain name ?
I have heard a lot about GoDaddy.

Would like to think what you recommend.

Hi there if the domain was attached to your hosting account then you closed the account then the domain is likely not yours anymore...

I buy all my domains now from Namecheap.com because they have free whois guard and fees for SSL and other things are much cheaper...

Can you please add few words about this free whois guard, and the other features they have?

The whois guard will make your domain ownership information private
if you are not using it, any one can easily identify your contact info, and this way he can identify all your websites.
