Traffic Sources: Don't Spread Yourself Too Thin

We all suffer information overload. But that was yes'day...

Today, we suffer overload of all kinds, apart from information: traffic sources, spying tools, keyword research tools, Saas & business tools we'd want to use for business, social media management tools, services, and what have you.

You might be well aware of our own behaviour when it comes to the "make money online" niche. Buying one course after an other, and then getting into this mastermind and that one.

If you look at our tendencies carefully, we don't ever stop.

Your success doesn't come from "this and that"

Take as many courses as you like, buy as many tools as you want, and spend all the time reading -- none of that matters unless you take the first step and then keep doing it. It won't come from doing "too much of one thing".

This waffling about here and there, sitting on the fence, moving in circles, and not accomplishing anything at all is a problem most of us have. But we all owe it to ourselves to stay committed, focused, and move ahead (even if it's at a crawling pace).

As far as affiliate marketing is concerned, here's exactly what needs done:
  • All things technical: websites, servers, hosting, plugins, etc.
  • Marketing itself: Blogging, Content Marketing, SEO, social Media, Email Marketing, PPC (includes Adwords, Bing, Social PPC, Mobile Advertising, and Retargeting).
  • Nurturing, Networking, & Engaging: People, people, and more people.
  • Managing Cashflow
  • Managing the business side of things
Do it yourself or get help by building a team. But that's just what you'd need.

This traffic source or that?

According to the Pareto Principle, your results will only come from 20% of all the traffic sources you'd ever work on. Within a traffic source (like Adwords), only 20% of the entire lot of keywords will contribute to 80% of the revenue.

It's not about this traffic source or that.

Your results will eventually come from how you setup campaigns, how you layout your keywords or do your targeting, how well your ads resonate with the audience, how well your landing pages flow with your ads, and the entire workflow or sales funnel you put up.

Then, A/B testing and optimization will follow, and this is never-ending all by itself.

When you are getting started, you'd have this tendency to switch from one traffic source to the other. Just don't.

Stick to one traffic source, one affiliate network, a handful of offers, and make this work.

Because each traffic source is a world within itself

Google Adwords alone takes a lifetime of work to master. You now have Facebook ads, Twitter ads, and LinkedIn sponsored posts. You also have Pinterest and Quora where you can advertise. Plus, there's native advertising, mobile advertising, and display advertising.

Between all this, we didn't even get to retargeting yet.

It's sounds all complicated (although it's simple enough, if you focus). That's why there's a need for dumbing down your choices and sticking to one source until it works for you.

Of course, there's nothing stopping you from moving on if you must. But the point is that you'd do well to avoid spreading yourself too thin.

Tell us how your campaigns are going.

this is very true....there is a ton of opportunity on many traffic sources but it is way too much for one person to manage....if you find a traffic source focus on it yourself...then if you want to scale maybe it is time to look at hiring a media buyer to help you expand into other traffic sources.
